This year I am going to write a novel?
Well, here we are at week three and I am already stuck. I drafted up about 750 words as a start to my introduction chapter. I took a break and now I can’t seem to find the thread I was travelling on.
“It’s not the fear of writing that blocks people, it’s fear of not writing well; something quite different.” – Scott Berkun
Instead of trying to force it I am going to work on a few character profiles that I will need later on in the story line. For example, I know the main character has a sister but beyond that her details are blank. Is she married? Does she have children? Her age? Kid’s age? Job? Schooling? Physical description? Personality? Quirks? Etcetera
I have created a family tree for the main character and a number of those characters are blank slates still as well. They are simply labelled as grandma, grandpa… So, I think sifting through that will help draw me back into my story thread.
“You can’t think yourself out of a writing block; you have to write yourself out of a thinking block.” – John Rogers
What do you do to keep it on track or return to it should you lose the thread?
