Flavoured Coffee, the virtual kind

There is a sweetness to the scent this morning that influences my expectation about taste. The taste, however, surprises me because it is shockingly bitter. It isn’t an unpleasant taste though. The bitterness fades into smoky notes reminiscent of vanilla. If we were having coffee I would offer you a Coney Island Caramel flavoured coffee.

If we were having coffee I would share with you that I was sifting through some paperwork to shred and I found my business permit for a day home I had contemplated opening back in 2016. It was a six child maximum for ages four and up. Open 6 to 6 Monday to Friday. I put a lot of work into the idea and even went as far as to get my permit for it, but I changed my mind at before I advertised. I had completely forgotten about the whole thing until I came across my permit. I am sharing this with you because I loved the name I had come up with: Balloon Tree Childcare.

If we were having coffee I would share that my family and I will be spending Christmas in Canada for the first time in years. A COVID safety precaution. In addition we will be spending the holidays with just our family unit. So, I decided that I wanted to do a couple fun things for this unusual holiday season so that we can be sure to make fun and happy holiday memories. One of the things that I have been working on is a Christmas Eve basket that I have filled with a few things for us all for the day. Here a few pictures of the basket transition to completion.

If we were having coffee I would share with you that NaNoPoBlano2020 is almost done. I made it through the month and found some new great posts to add to my reader feed.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that my boys have been really into baking lately. Two weekends ago my younger boy made orange snickerdoodle cookies and last weekend my older boy made me gingerbread cupcakes with lemon butter cream. Very tasty. Of course baking is contagious so I cooked up some peanut butter cupcakes topped with chocolate ganoche. I should mention that I know there is talk of making some kind of tasty treat brewing this weekend but I am not sure what it is.

If we were having coffee I would pass you the coffee pot so I can hear about your week.

  1. Shari, I love baking too. At the moment, I have hit a bit of a snafu as the ignitor bar in my oven is malfunctioning. I need to take it apart to get the part number so I can order a new one. It is on my list, but it hasn’t bubbled to the top yet. ๐Ÿ˜Š Happy baking.

  2. Your Balloon Tree name made me remember a thing I had forgotten until just now- When I was a tiny, tiny person, not more than eight years old, my mom would sometimes bring me with her when she had to go to the bank. In this bank, they had a lollipop tree- a small wooden tree-shaped construction with holes in it where the bankers had stuck lollipops in, and children like me could wander by the tree and take a lollipop.

    I always loved that thing.

      1. I realized after I posted the comment that you can buy the things now. When I was a teensy person, it was magical. Now it’s something you can just buy. I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing or not.

        1. That’s interesting because on a similar note, I was just involved in a conversation about items that you could only buy at the holiday season and how special that made them feel. For example, certain kinds of chocolates like Turtles… Now you can get them year round and it really changes that feel for the kids now from how we felt as children when it really did seem magical.

          1. You just reminded me that I need to go to the closest Aldi to see if they have Winter Kipferl. I loved it every year when I was in Germany and it’s only available for the colder part of the year.
