Pass the coffee pot please

The smell is sweet and bitter all at once, but it also more than that. As I inhale the warmth of my coffee I acknowledge the smell of marshmallow and chocolate. I have heard of rocky road bars and rocky road ice cream but not rocky road coffee! I wonder how the flavour holds up as I bring the rim of my mug to my lips. Should I sprinkle small marshmallows on the top and drizzle it with a tiny bit of liquid chocolate? I don’t, but I do allow that first mouthful to disappear while I take time to inspect the flavour. It is a mild coffee bass that is not bitter like the smell suggests. It is mild and earthy with a little tang at the end. Perhaps this is the rocky road nut being represented. There is nothing sweet in the taste, but I drink my coffee black. Perhaps adding a sweetener would complement the sweet notes that are present in the smell. There is nothing of chocolate in the flavour either. However, it is smooth and easy to drink.

If we were having coffee I would share with you that I tried 3 flavours of coffee from Brooklyn Bean Roastery: Brooklyn Cheesecake cherry cheesecake flavour, Praline Dream vanilla caramel flavour and Big Kahuna macadamia nut white chocolate flavour. Did you try and new flavours of coffee this week?

If we were having coffee I would share my reading line up with you.

  1. Janet Evanovich’s Look Alive Twenty-Five from the Plum Series
  2. Janet Evanovich’s Twisted Twenty-Six from the Plum Series
  3. Janet Evanovich’s The Scam from the Fox & O’Hare Series
  4. Janet Evanovich’s The Pursuit from the Fox & O’Hare Series
  5. Janet Evanovich’s The Big Kahuna from the Fox & O’Hare Series
  6. Terry Brooks Ilse Witch the Voyage of Jerle Shannara trilogy book 1
  7. Terry Brooks Antrax the Voyage of Jerle Shannara trilogy book 2
  8. Terry Brooks Morgawar the Voyage of Jerle Shannara trilogy book 3

I imagine this will keep me reading until well into the New Year simply because my reading time has been almost non-existent. However, I am excited to read all these titles so we shall see how it goes. What are you reading?

If we were having coffee I would share this picture of Maddi. She absolutely has to involve herself in whatever activity the children are involved with. Today she was playing super dog!

If we were having coffee I would share that my son and I got our COVID test results and they were negative. That said, the first time being sick since March was a truly exhausting experience COVID or not. I am happy to report that we are feeling better and isolation from this round of cold/flu is complete.

If we were having coffee I would share with you that I don’t mind aging and I don’t mind the number changing each year because it is just one more level of experience. Last October I reached level 40. However that said, I pulled my calf muscle walking down the stairs. Not really sure what happened, but it made me think of the chiropractor last year when he said to me, “Do you think you are over doing it? Typically, my clients your age…” I remember looking around the room a bit confused about who he was talking to and thinking Dude I am only a few years older then you! Anyway, that little calf muscle incident coupled with the fact that I need hip surgery and other health things that I have noticed this year got me to thinking about aging and being 40. I joked with my husband that he should stay 39 because I turned 40 and things are starting to fall apart. So, in fear that 41 and up will require me to be held together with Gorilla Glue and Duct Tape I have decided that I am going to celebrate my 40th birthday AGAIN this year and every year after. When my husband asked what I would like for my birthday this year I requested a cupcake with a “Happy 40th Again” note on it. So, this year I will be on level 41 but I will only be 40 again, ha-ha!

If we were having coffee I would smile and explain that the coffee pot acts like an object that indicates whose turn it is to speak. If we were having coffee I would pass you the coffee pot eager to hear what you have to share.

  1. Maddi is soooo ADORABLE!! 💕 Great photo and thank you for the coffee today. Hmm, I’m turning 60 this month but am holding together well since I still have my original hips, knees, everything except I have an added plate in my right wrist where I broke it when I fell off a trunk I stepped off of stupidly 3 years ago. They say you are only as old as you feel!! And as I age, and my feet ache I’m thinking dang, I’m getting old. But in my head and heart I feel 25! Haha! I said the same thing as you… I’ll just be 40 forever! Nice reading list, wish I had time for some books. Have a great weekend! ❤️

    1. Thank you for stopping in for a virtual coffee. Yikes, sorry to hear about your wrist. I do agree with you when you say in your head and heart you feel younger but goodness I sure wish my physical body would get on that same page. Haha. I hope you have a great weekend as well.

  2. Hi Sharri
    Happy Almost Birthday!!!
My tipping point was hitting 50. Bits and pieces began to fall off, yellowing and shriveling before they did. Lost a tooth. Never found it. At 51, another tooth took off, looking for The Lost Tooth. Never heard back from either one. Little bastards. Gave them the best sweet things for years. Grrrr.

Currently reading Axiom’s End. It is a science fiction novel and debut novel by Lindsay Ellis. I’m enjoying it. I have a HUGE reading list in its own file, a subsection of a subjected main file title. Not sure what I will read next. Fantasy? SciFi? Horror? Thriller? Too many to chose from. I’ll see where my mind is at after I finish this book.

I did try a new coffee this week: Stone Street Coffee Cold Brew Reserve, Coarse Ground, 1 LB Bag, Dark Roast, Colombian Single Origin. I super enjoyed their French Vanilla and gave this a shot. Definitely a DARK roast. Less grounds/more water on the second cold brew batch was more palatable. Most likely will stick with the FV next order.

I like the idea of the Coffee Pot as a Talking Stick. There’s a story in that.

    1. Thank you for the laugh. The words little bastards got me, haha.

I just googled Axiom’s End and it sounds interesting. I don’t think you can go wrong with reading a story about a “government coverup of contact with extraterrestrial life.”

As for coffee, I don’t think that you can go wrong with French Vanilla.

Ah, “Talking Stick”! Those are the words that kept alluding me as I wrote about passing the coffee pot. Thank you! Have a great week and thanks for stopping in.

  3. Hi Shari, I’m so sorry that 40 turned so sour on you, but yes, we pay for our acquired wisdom with the aging of our bones and organs. No free ride here apparently. Are you still doing the RCMP thing too? That can also take a toll I would think, not to mention time away from everything else you’re trying to do. Oh, and parenting. Yea – that will age a person if you intend on doing it well.

  4. Super Maddi! How precious.. I love that term “your age”… LOL I think the Caramel Apple coffee is the most different I’ve tried so far.. It’s actually not bad.. I did finally score the pumpkin Skinny Syrups so those will carry me through Pumpkin Season. 🙂

    1. Caramel Apple coffee sounds very tasty and I might try and seek that out. Not coffee but ice cream, I noticed that Dairy Queen has a caramel apple pie blizzard that I need to taste sometime soon! I hope you have a nice week Kathleen. Thanks for stopping in.

  5. My plan was to officially stop counting at 39…39 forever has a nice ring to it! I am drinking coffee right now, but have switched to decaf. My usual is Starbucks True North/Blonde. It’s smooth and I drink it black. I’m glad your COVID-19 tests came back negative and that you’re feeling better. I can’t believe the numbers here in Ontario and am fearful every day that they will shut down the schools again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I’ve started a new show that you might enjoy…have you seen it? “Dead to Me” with Christina Applegate?
