A fart on the wind

The Penis Chronicles presents, “A fart on the wind.”

We had made the long drive from our province to the Northwest Territories. My older boy (6 at the time) and I had talked about seeing the Northern Lights. However, the day light hours are so much longer that neither of us had been awake when the sky was dark enough to appreciate them.

On one of our last nights camping I woke in the night with blackness surrounding me. I crept to the door and opened it a crack. The sky was cloud free and dancing with the amazing auroras.

Now I had been thinking that seeing the Northern lights was impossible but what turned out to be impossible was waking my son! I tried calling to him quietly. I didn’t want to be too loud because I didn’t want the 3 year old to wake up. Neither budged anyway. I climbed up the ladder to the older boy’s bunk and gently shook his leg while saying his name. Nothing! I got up on his bed with him and nudged him a few times while saying his name. He kicked me! I thought he was awake at that point, but he wasn’t. I shook him gently. There was no waking him.

The next morning I asked him how he slept and he said, “Good.” He had no clue that I had spent about 10 to 15 minutes trying to rouse him from sleep to see the lights! Any other time a fart on the wind would have woke him.
