The statue of “Our Lady of Peace” has been in Historic Dunvegan since 1985. Historic Dunvegan is a provincial park and historic site. It is located south of Fairview, Alberta on the Peace River. The park offers day use as well as camping, and it is one of the first areas we camped after getting our trailer a few years ago. It is a park that we all enjoy camping at and have returned to every year since.
As a historic site it offers history and my boys never seem to get tired of it. This statue of “Our Lady of Peace” is always the first sight that inspires their questions. I think the graceful beauty of the statue set against the green scenery and blue sky draws their attention.
The bottom of the statue indicates that it was commissioned by The Knights of Columbus councils of Fairview, Falher, Grande Prairie and Manning. It was sculpted in Italy, and its purpose is to commemorate the St. Charles Roman Catholic Mission.

Another camping tradition for us when we do our yearly trip to Dunvegan is to enjoy a trip to the ice cream shop. It is a cute little place at Dunvegan Gardens that offers strawberry picking, raspberry picking, lots of fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables and of course delicious hard ice-cream of your choice in a cone.
