Waffles versus Pancakes

There was nobody at the table, but it was set for 2. I stood facing it and considering. All I had been told was to pick a seat while I waited, and this table had the only chairs. In front of one chair was a perfect stack of warm pancakes. The butter was melting on them before my eyes and they were drizzled with just the right amount of maple syrup. My taste buds quivered at the thought of taking one slow and savoury bite. However, at the second place setting was a circular waffle patterned with that classic indented checker pattern. Each divot was filled with a rich red raspberry jam. The sweet scent drifted up into my nostrils: vanilla and fruit. Another favourite, but how could I choose?

Footsteps were approaching.

I slide into place behind the waffle. “Excuse me, can I get a coffee please?”

Things to compare and contrast:
Some people are coffee drinkers while others prefer tea. The neighbour is a cat person but we are a dog family. I prefer tropical vacations but you prefer skiing in the snowy mountains. January’s theme at Writing is Communication is “contrast.” Below I have provide a short list of compare and contrast items for writing prompts. Grab one or two and see where it leads, then leave a link in the comment section below.

  1. Waffles versus Pancakes
  2. Syrup or Jam
  3. Ice Cream versus Hot Chocolate
  4. Movie or Book
  5. Dragon or Alicorn
  6. Plant versus Flower
  7. Reality versus Fiction
  8. Wings or Fins
