Welcome to miniatures.
I purchased my first dollhouse kit just over a year ago, and I opened the box with unsure fingers. Was I ready for this task? The box seemed to have so many pieces and the instructions felt long and challenging. Regardless, dollhouses and the tiny items that furnish them have always fascinated me so I picked up some sandpaper and began the process.
I had picked a house at the 1:12 scale not really knowing what that meant. I now know that it is full scale or 1 inch equals one foot. My house is an all wood kit called The Coventry Cottage. Assembled its dimensions are 17” wide by 21 ½” high and 17” deep. There were some learning curves for me with this first build, but overall I am happy with how it turned out.
My house is sparsely decorated right now, and my favourite room is the kitchen (See Miniatures).
I am eager to start building a new miniature house, and I am waiting for its arrival in the mail. I ordered my new house and my first house from The Little Dollhouse Company. Given the time of year I am inspired to do a Christmas theme, and I found a number of items to start me off online through The Little Dollhouse Company. Of course, this house won’t be ready for this holiday season, but that is okay. Stay tuned and I will let you know how it progresses.
